Polynesia’s Most Interesting Islands

For Europeans, there is nothing more exotic than a vacation to the region called Polynesia. From islands of only a few hundred square meters to large volcanic cones rising out of the Pacific Ocean, tens of thousands of islands offer a dreamlike holiday in a tropical paradise. Palm trees everywhere, sunshine, white sandy beaches, friendly locals. But where to turn in the flood of choices?

Bora Bora

This archipelago is the epitome of tropical paradise. It is an atoll, or a coral reef rising above the surface of the earth. It is surrounded by a lagoon. At its edge is a tourist “resort” in the form of bungalows that rise above the sea on a typical wooden footbridge. How many days would you spend here? In addition to relaxing, you can dive in one of the most beautiful coral reefs in the world, or go sea kayaking or surfing. You can also spend time with the locals. The locals organize various themed evenings with traditional demonstrations for tourists. However, getting to this place is not easy, involving several long flights and eventually changing boats for Europeans.

Tahiti

Tahiti is the largest in French Polynesia. It is part of the Society Islands. It is not as dependent on tourism as surrounding areas. It exports black pearls, vanilla, fruits, coconuts, and flowers. However, most of the approximately 200,000 residents are engaged in the tourism industry. Surrounded by azure waters, this is a paradise where anything goes. If you get tired of the beaches, another great advantage is that you can go to the mountains, which are at their highest peak, 2,241 meters above sea level

Tahaa

Also known as Vanilla Island, it accounts for about 70% of vanilla production. However, it is also considered one of the most luxurious places to spend a vacation. The island is famous for its long pier that extends into the surrounding shallows. Bungalows with the best facilities are lined up there. Groceries and other necessities must be delivered here daily for the local tourists! The last on our list is definitely not the last of the beautiful ones. Rapa Nui is best known for the famous moai statues that line its shoreline. They look like guardians of the horizon.
